my life in retail

i started my retail career when i was 12. my father worked weekends in a friends pet store. he would occasionally take us kids with him. we would catch tropical fish, hamsters, snakes and other such "pets" for customers. then when i was in my teens my father opened a pet store in newmarket ontario where i worked p/t. in fact some days i ran it by myself. now some 25 years later i find myself in an industry wrought with labour challenges, "gen y" demand-rs and customers who expect way too much from my young and inexperienced employee base. today i hate retail.
for those of you that like it..here's a great game for you:

Ah... retail. Yes been there done that. One must remember however that there are many positive things that have come as a result of this ever changing and exciting business. Think of all the people you've met. Those who have inspired you, others you have mentored leaving an ever lasting imprint in their lives. And then there are the many challenges you've been given. What other industry could possibly offer you more? The diversity and multiple options that present themselves in the retail business are endless and often launch pads to other opportunities. At the moment you may dislike retail but in the end you will be thankful for all that it's provided an energized and enthusiastic soul such as yours.
